Marketing Skills Transfer to Teaching
Marketing and teaching aren’t all that different. I’ve spent time in both roles and I’ve noticed a surprising number of parallels between the two that might not be readily apparent at first glance, but make a great deal of sense upon further reflection. Both roles require a lot of effort in taking complicated ideas and breaking them down into easily digestible chunks for their audience. Both must prioritize stakeholder management, whether it be someone higher up the corporate ladder or an irate parent.
Each role requires planning a year if one wants to approach their work methodically and effectively, with campaign plans and lesson plans having some uncanny similarities. Presentation skills under pressure are key for both roles as well. Having transitioned between the two a few times due to my passion for both marketing and teaching, this understanding has helped me build skills in both arenas that are transferable to each other.
